At Nurtured Nests, our hand-raised Peachface Lovebirds are raised with care, patience, and plenty of human interaction. These beautiful little parrots are known for their bold personalities, strong bonds, and playful nature making them a wonderful choice for the right home.
Personality & Temperament
Peachface Lovebirds are confident, intelligent, and full of character. Despite their small size, they have big personalities and aren’t afraid to show it!
They are:
- Playful and highly active
- Curious and cheeky
- Intelligent and quick to learn
- Strong-willed and sometimes a little stubborn
Hand-raised lovebirds tend to be much more people-oriented, often forming a deep bond with their owner.
What They’re Like as Pets
Lovebirds are engaging and entertaining companions, but they do require a bit more understanding than budgies.
As pets, they:
- Thrive on daily interaction and attention
- Enjoy toys, enrichment, and mental stimulation
- Can be affectionate, especially with their chosen person
- May show territorial behaviour around their cage
They suit owners who are willing to spend time building a relationship and providing consistent interaction.
Diet & Nutrition
A balanced diet is essential to keep your lovebird healthy and thriving.
We recommend:
- A high-quality pellet or seed mix as a base
- Daily fresh vegetables (leafy greens, carrot, capsicum, broccoli)
- Small amounts of fruit as treats
- Fresh water changed daily
Avoid avocado, chocolate, caffeine, and processed foods, as these are toxic to birds.
Cage & Living Environment
Lovebirds are active and need a setup that allows them to move, play, and explore.
Their cage should:
- Be spacious with room to climb and flap wings
- Include a variety of perches and shreddable toys
- Provide enrichment to prevent boredom
- Be cleaned regularly
They also need:
- Daily supervised time outside the cage
- A safe, calm environment away from drafts and extreme temperatures
- A consistent routine with time to rest
Understanding Lovebird Behaviour
While Peachface Lovebirds can be incredibly affectionate, it’s important to understand their natural instincts.
Unlike more easy-going species, lovebirds can be:
- More assertive and sometimes nippy

They don’t always enjoy being patted all over and may prefer interaction on their own terms. BUT every peachface we have handraised has absolutely loved cuddles and hiding in your tshirt!
